Born in Blaina in the South Wales Valleys, Dawson was always interested in art from a very early age. He had various local jobs before going onto study Foundation Art and Design in Newport.
Dawson won a scholarship to the Byam Shaw School of Art where he went from 1994-97. He has been a prolific painter ever since.
