‘I am an award-winning illustrator, a graduate of Hereford College of Arts, and from Wales. I work with several mediums within the visual arts: ceramics, paint, illustration and animation. Research, observation, drawing and painting underpin my work.

I was brought up in the pit village Glyncorrwg in the Afan Valley, and now work from my studio in Grosmont on the edge of Monmouthshire in Border Country. In between Glyncorrwg and Grosmont I have lived in many places with all of them feeding into my work in some way or another.

When making a new ceramic piece, my starting point often begins with a text I have read and this triggers an idea. The words may come directly from a book, or maybe something I have read in a museum or similar. They might be words I have heard, such as a snippet from the radio or a piece of oral conversation or testimony.

Material connected to the rich socio-cultural, natural and industrial history of South Wales is of particular interest. I am equally curious about the medieval, whether Welsh or from beyond the border. No historical period is really off limits. The interior of a medieval house or church is as exciting for me as going down the shaft to pit bottom! The crossovers between science and philosophy, the Spanish Civil War, poetry and the history of social injustice also interest me greatly.’
