Book Arts Workshop – with Guy Begbie

Upstairs at the Chapel

Thursday 20th November 2025, 10am-4pm

The French Sewn Flat Back Case Bound Book

Under the guidance of experienced bookbinding tutor Guy Begbie, participants will have the opportunity to make a cloth bound French sewn multi-section book. This is a traditional classic book structure that is strong and durable. The page sections are sewn through each of the page spine folds and so the pages will lie flat when the book is opened. This type of construction can be applied to books of varying scales and formats, and with a cloth bound cover creates a professional binding finish. You will then have a plain, elegant space to insert your image and text content. Along with the conventional page layout, the book will also have other interesting page structures, such as gate-folded and drop-down pages.

This workshop is suitable for participants both with or without previous bookbinding experience.

Guy Begbie is an artist practitioner and Book Arts workshop provider with a multidisciplinary artist’s practice, working in the field of Book Arts & Printmaking. With 30 years of teaching experience as an Art & Design University Lecturer & Book Arts Coordinator, Guy has exhibited his art works internationally.
