Conversations at the Chapel – Horatio Clare

Upstairs at the Chapel

Wednesday 16th October 2024, 7.30pm

In conversation with Alastair Laurence.

At the end of 2019 author, broadcaster and journalist Horatio Clare began a terrible period of severe mental ill health. He had a breakdown, was sectioned, received psychiatric treatment and has happily recovered. Out of his experiences he presented the Radio 4 series Is Psychiatry Working. His latest book is Your Journey, Your Way, and is a welcome guide to how to fight for and receive the best treatment if you do fall ill and how to navigate the system. It is a vital, much needed and beautiful piece of writing.

Horatio was born and grew up on a sheep farm in the Black Mountains. So, a very local author indeed! His first book, published to great acclaim in 2006, was Running for the Hills, a lyrical account of his childhood. Other titles followed including as A Single Swallow, The Light in the Dark, Down to the Sea in Ships and Heavy Light. There have also been many radio documentaries presented by him over the years. And he writes for publications including the Financial Times, Guardian, Telegraph and Daily Mail.
