These panels of 4 or perhaps 5 paintings have been assembled by the artist into a sequence of narrative performances, which take place within theatrical interiors and from behind closed doors, in familiar and intimate surroundings. They are all telling stories, posing questions and suggesting many possibilities, but it is the spectator who makes the final picture, ‘…the story can only be completed by the viewer’ (Marcel Duchamp).
Kumar’s influences come from rich sources – the paintings of Caravaggio, Vermeer, Richter, Vuillard, Poussin and still images from film and television. Kumar trained under Michael Upton and Norman Ackroyd whilst at the Royal Academy Schools.
We are also showcasing a small collection of his beautiful watercolour Welsh landscapes.
