Upstairs at The Art Shop

This exhibition has been a delight to hang. Bringing work up from our store in the basement was like greeting dear friends not seen for a while.

Our selection includes…

The lovely George Rowlett, landscape painter, with his gorgeous paintings of flowers from his garden; Cornelia O’Donovan MA RCA, whose work never ceases to amaze us with it’s vitality and vibrancy of colour; Slade trained and Rome scholar, Andrea McLean, with her meticulously detailed paintings of medieval maps and other worlds; Amanda Caines, exquisit embroideries and paintings, who will be collaborating with partner, sculptor Matt Caines, on a big show in September at The Art Shop; Melbourne based artist, Elizabeth Barnett, who we met at an Artists’ Book Fair in 2009 following her MA in illustration at Camberwell School of Art; ceramic maker, James Burnett Stuart, whose work epitomises beauty and function, surprised us with these beautiful landscapes; and Alexis Snell, first came here for a residency after her degree show over 10 years ago and has become a close friend to us all.

Alexis recently won a commission for the Victoria & Albert Museum to make a large ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ which has now been cast in bronze and can be seen in the British Galleries. She will be designing work for us for the Food Festival later this year.
